Grab Utility in macOS Mojave and Above In macOS Mojave and above, the Screenshot app replaces the Grab app from earlier versions of macOS and Mac OS X. When you press Command+Space keys and type in “Grab”, it now brings up the new ScreenShot app that was introduced with macOS Mojave. You can use CMD+Shift+5 to open the new Screenshot app. In this quick video we show you Mojave's new tool for recording video of your screen, as well as taking screenshots with MacOS’ own screen capture tool.

New features to take a screenshot on a Mac with macOS Mojave. What is new to capture screenshots on a Mac with macOS Mojave? You can simply press Shift–Command–5 to launch onscreen keyboard on Mac to take a screenshot. You can capture an entire screen, a window or a selection of your Mac screen with the onscreen keyboard. You may already know how to take screen or a portion of the screen in Mac OS X. You can press ⌘,Shift,3 keys to capture the entire screen or ⌘,Shift,4 to capture a rectangular portion of the screen. By default the screenshots will be stored as.png files.

The new interface and workflow in macOS Mojave let you screenshot the entire screen, the selected window or the user-defined portion of the screen. Choose your mode by clicking Capture Entire Screen, Capture Selected Window or Capture Selected Portion, then hit the Capture button on the right side.

Apple has introduced a new interface for screen shots and screen recordings in macOS Mojave. Let’s have a look at how it works.

The new feature brings together a number of features in a new interface and has less reliance on being able to remember multiple shortcuts.

To bring up the new interface press Shift-Command (⌘)-5.

Capture the entire screen

• Your pointer changes to a camera.
• Click any screen to capture that screen or click Capture in the onscreen controls.

Capture the selected window

• Your pointer changes to a camera.
• Click a window to capture that window.

Capture a selected portion of the screen

• Drag to select an area of the screen to capture.
• To move the entire selection, drag from within the selection.
  
• Click Capture in the onscreen controls.

Edit & Share

After you take the screenshot a thumbnail of it briefly appears in the bottom right of your screen.

• If you do nothing or swipe the thumbnail to the right the screenshot is saved.
• You can click the thumbnail to open the screenshot. You can then edit it or share it.
• Drag the thumbnail to move the screenshot to a document, an email, a Finder window or the Trash.

To scrub through a stack, use two fingers on a trackpad or one finger on a Multi-Touch mouse. To access a file, click to expand the stack, then open what you need.

With macOS Mojave, the Finder becomes even more of a doer. Now you can quickly locate a file by how it looks. Instantly see all of a file’s metadata. And perform Quick Actions on files without ever opening an app.

Now a tap of your space bar provides more than just a quick look at a file. It gives you the power to perform actions specific to the kind of file you’re viewing — without ever launching an app. So you can mark up a PDF, rotate and crop an image, even trim audio and video. And when you’re ready, you can share right from Quick Look, too.

Screenshots are now a snap.

With macOS Mojave, all the controls you need to grab any type of screenshot are one simple shortcut away. Just launch the new Screenshot utility or press Shift-Command-5. An easy-to-use menu includes new screen-recording tools and options for setting a start timer, showing the cursor, and even choosing where you’d like to save your screenshots. Take a screenshot and a thumbnail of it animates to the corner of the screen. Leave it there to automatically save it to the destination you’ve chosen. You can drag it directly into a document or click it to mark it up and share it right away — without having to save a copy. It’s more than easy; it’s clutter-free.

Add everyone to the conversation.

With macOS Mojave, you can jump on a FaceTime call with up to 32 people. Invite anyone to join a call anytime it’s in progress. And the same call can include both audio and video callers. Quick Actions: With Quick Actions in the Preview pane, you can work on files right from the Finder.
