Jettison allows you to automatically eject all the external disks the moment your Mac goes to sleep (you close the lid). This way, you can safely unplug your USB thumb drive or external HDD without risking any data loss. But that's not all that this app can do. Another developer chiming in here (I'm the author of Default Folder X, App Tamer, Jettison, HistoryHound, and a bunch of other stuff going back nearly 30 years). I use AppleScript in 3 primary ways: 1. For automating processes in my own business, including email parsing and message handling, and software development and testing. I'm a Macintosh user. I've formatted various small flash drives to Mac's file system or FAT32 using Mac's Disk Utility, but I've never attempted a larger (256GB). From my research it seems like there is no problem. Just erase the drive, rename it, and select MSDOS/Fat which is the same as FAT32. Jettison ejects my drives when I put my Mac to sleep manually, but not if it sleeps due to being left idle. In many cases, this is due to the fact that your Mac, when left idle, isn't actually going to sleep - it's just turning the display off.

Install the App
- Press
Command+Spaceand type Terminal and press enter/return key. - Run in Terminal app:

and press enter/return key.
If the screen prompts you to enter a password, please enter your Mac's user password to continue. When you type the password, it won't be displayed on screen, but the system would accept it. So just type your password and press ENTER/RETURN key. Then wait for the command to finish. - Run:
brew cask install jettison
